Wednesday Wednesdays

Today I've got a video to share. I apologize that there is no sound -- I wanted to add some music or something, but I am too lazy to learn don't know how to do so. The other day, Wednesday did not want to be woken up,but she was so darn cute about it. She kept grabbing my hand also when I would pull it away.

Enjoy!

Please excuse my Andrea-like hands.

Also, does anyone know why the video is centered like that? I've never uploaded a video before (it's from my phone).

Now Playing: Passion Pit, Gossamer

I'm a little more than late to the Passion Pit train, having only started listening to Manners couple of months ago. But since I started, I haven't stopped, and I was more than excited for their new release Gossamer to come out. I had already listened to the first track, "Take A Walk," more times than I could count.

I have to admit, I was slow to warm to the full album. I prefer their upbeat tracks, like "Little Secret" and "The Reeling." The first three songs on Gossamer are aces, but then it slows down. Still, I couldn't seem to turn it off or even skip a song, and more I listen, the more I love it all.

I usually listen during my morning commute to get pumped up for the day, and I have no shame dancing behind the wheel to "Carried Away."

NPR is currently streaming the full album HERE -- give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Breaking the Seal

Most people use the term "breaking the seal" in reference to taking that first pee during a night of drinking. Once you break the seal, you undoubtedly have to go every 15 minutes for the rest of the night.

I'd like to talk about breaking another kind of seal... the ice cream seal. My bf and I recently completed P90X. We stuck to it and saw results, and I made it through the whole program (save for a quick trip to Tucson to visit my sister and bro-in-law) without eating ice cream. Ice cream is a huge trigger food for me. If I don't buy it, I'm generally okay, but once I give in, I need giant bowls every night. 1/2 cup serving? ... More like half a quart.

I made it through that whole stretch and was quite proud. Until we went into vacation mode and I had ice cream almost every night (I think the nights I didn't I had s'mores -- another trigger! I cannot stop eating s'mores once I start.). Ever since, I have been craving ice cream every night. I try to buy no sugar added fudgesicles but nothing is really better in the summer than a soft-serve twist with sprinkles.

On an aside, I worked at a family-owned ice cream shop for seven summers when I was younger. I ate my fill of ice cream but never got sick of it. I do know to tip well, though, when I visit those types of places now! ;)

I don't really know where this post is going other than to say that I would be perfectly content with eating ice cream for dinner every night.

Help me out here. What's your trigger food?

Foodie Finds: Egg-Stuffed Baked Potatoes

I love food. Like ... a lot. Most of the blogs I follow are food blogs or relate to food in some way, and I have probably thousands of recipes saved (not even kidding). I thought that I'd do a feature to share either some good recipes I've made, recipes I've saved, or other food-related items.

I'd seen the idea for a baked egg potato floating around the interwebs for a while, and last night I finally tried it. I used this recipe from the blog Our Best Bites.

This meal was so simple and so good. We grilled up some chicken and asparagus to have on the side and let the potato innards bake with the egg. They turned out nice and crispy, kind of like hashbrowns. In the potato was bacon and mozzarella cheese. It was delicious.

My only complaint was that I wanted the yolk to be kind of runny, but it turned out completely cooked. It was still really good though, I just like me some runny yolk.

What did you have for dinner last night?

Things I Love Thursday: Olympics Edition

One of my favorite bloggers, the lovely Gala Darling, runs a feature called Things I Love Thursday and invites others to join in.

Here are a few things I am loving this week:

  • The Olympics! I never really got into the Olympics before, but this time around I cannot get enough. Some of my favorite events to watch are football, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, and track & field. I was bummed when the U.S. men's soccer team didn't make it, but I am still proud to support the women and will be rockin' my U.S. jersey tomorrow (and hopefully for two more games after that). Here's Rapinoe's goal from the last game:

  • Summer hours! My work is doing a summer hours program where you can work longer days Mon-Thurs and leave early on Fridays. I like to get to work early and leave early so it kind of sucks staying late, but it's oh-so worth it come Fridays.
  • Nick Offerman, aka Ron Swanson, aka the most awesome dude ever. Here's some proof (NSFW!!). That picture (and explanation) made me laugh so hard.
  • Aisha Tyler. Aisha is really funny; on one of my favorite shows, Archer; and her podcast  Girl on Guy (wonder how many hits that search is going to bring to my site) helps me get through the workday.
If you've never seen Archer, enjoy these clips --  I've got some more Olympics to watch!

Wednesday Wednesdays

Since my cat's name is Wednesday, I thought I'd do a little feature on the hump days called "Wednesday Wednesdays" -- featuring, you guessed it, pictures of my cat.

My bf had a stray cat at his work who kept getting knocked up. The second time, he said half-jokingly that if any of the kittens were all black (the last litter was grey striped), he was taking them. Lo and behold, there were two all black kittens.

I had never had a pet before (save for some fish and a guinea pig) and so I was hesitant. Wouldn't that be expensive? I'm glad he talked me into it because I love our crazy cat.

Wednesday is kind of shy and easily scared, but also really hyper and fun. She is about 10 months old right now. Here are a couple pictures from when she was just a kitten:

Pretty cute, huh?
